Anyone who has owned a Wirehaired Vizsla KNOWS that these dogs LOVE their people. And would do anything to be with their people 24 hours of every-day. Because they are so family-oriented, this breed of dog does best with someone in the family being home with them the majority of the day as they can be prone to separation anxiety. Generally, these dogs do pick a favorite owner in the family, however they are very friendly and happy to spend time with all members of the family. Obedience wise, our Wirehaired Vizslas are obedient to the commands of both Kagen and I, so while they may pick a favorite family member, that doesn’t necessarily affect their obedience to all family members.
Personality-wise, these dogs are generally very easy to get along with. They are known for being happy, easy-going, and attention-loving. They are known as Velcro dogs because they attach strongly to their families. If you want to be their best friend, they will want to be yours! They do very well with children-particularly older children, but still love younger children as well. With younger children they do need supervision as the child may become too rough and put him or herself at risk.
It is important that Wirehaired Vizslas get enough exercise (at least 2 hours daily). When this happens, they seem to be very content to come inside and settle down with their family of humans to watch TV or take a nap. Although they are big dogs, they will become your own personal lapdog if allowed. LOL!
Because this breed does require a lot of exercise, they would best suit a family with an active lifestyle.
